SYLA announces two new career events

23rd January 2018 | careers

Two further career insight events have been organised by the Scottish Young Lawyers' Association on successive evenings next month.

Both in their "So you want to be…" series, the first features in-house lawyers, and the second judicial assistants at the UK Supreme Court.

Run in conjunction with the In-house Lawyers' Committee of the Law Society of Scotland, the in-house lawyers' event takes place at the Society's offices on Wednesday 21 February from 6-8pm. Giving a flavour for life as an in-house lawyer, it features presentations from Leigh Kirkpatrick of RBS, Stephen Small from the National Trust for Scotland and Carolyn Jameson from Skyscanner. Each speaker will give an insight into their daily working lives, and delegates will then have an opportunity to ask questions and network over refreshments. Click here to register.

The following evening, Thursday 22 February, "So you want to be… a Judicial Assistant" will run from 6-7.30pm at the SSC Members’ Lounge, Parliament House, Edinburgh. A team from the UK Supreme Court will speak on what life is like working as a judicial assistant to the Justices. The court is currently recruiting temporary posts, assisting the Justices by carrying out research in connection with appeals and summarising applications for permission to appeal. Chris Maile, head of HR at the court, will speak along with current judicial assistants, Ewan McCaig and James Fagan, and a former judicial assistant, Alice Normand. Click here to register.
