SYLA sets 16 May AGM date

23rd April 2019

The Scottish Young Lawyers’ Association (SYLA) has confirmed that its annual general meeting will take place on Thursday 16 May 2019 at Shepherd & Wedderburn, 1 Exchange Crescent, Conference Square, Edinburgh from 6pm with the meeting commencing at 6.30pm.

At the AGM, the President and treasurer will give an update on the past year’s activities and any amendments to the constitution will also be moved and voted on. There will then be the election of committee members for 2019-20.

The SYLA is appealing to members to offer themselves for committee positions. These comprise the President, Vice President, treasurer and secretary as well as seven non-executive committee positions. In line with the constitution of the SYLA, only current committee members who have served on the committee for at least 12 months may stand for President. All other positions are open to the membership.

People who are good at organising events, PR and media, design, advertising and IT and communications are especially welcome. SYLA's work is varied and it says its committee has always been lucky to attract hardworking, innovative and dedicated young lawyers who volunteer to give something back to the profession. "SYLA are uniquely placed to address representation issues and politics surrounding the law, and if this interests you then the Association would love to have you on board", it added.

Committee members are expected to organise approximately three or four events per term, in addition to assisting with other events, and monthly meetings are held by videoconference link.

Click here to register interest in the AGM. To submit nomination for a committee position in advance of the AGM, please contact mail@syla.co.uk to obtain a nomination form. Nominations can also be accepted on the evening.
