Weightmans hires three partners as Glasgow office expands

29th September 2014 | careers

UK legal firm Weightmans is expanding its Glasgow office with the lateral hire of three new partners.

Commercial real estate and corporate finance lawyer Douglas Gourlay joins from Anderson Strathern's Edinburgh office. He will focus on real estate finance in Scotland, with a view to developing the firm's offering in the wider UK market to build a dedicated real estate finance team.

Pamela Stevenson and Seonaid Busby have joined the insurance team from bto solicitors. Their task is to develop the market and advise on Scottish claims arising from matters including commercial insurance, disease, large loss, motor and transport, regulatory, and public sector.

Set up last year, the Glasgow office will expand to a team of 10 lawyers plus support staff.

Managing partner John Schorah commented: “We are growing our business in Scotland organically, bringing together a team of experts from within the region in a focused way, and not as a consequence of any business acquisition. We are extremely proud of the fact that this expansion has been in response to our clients requesting more of our presence north of the border.”

The firm says it is looking to expand its offering in Scotland further during the next 12 to 18 months.
