Young lawyers' essay competition opens again

15th December 2014

Opportunities and challenges arising from the civil courts reforms are the theme of the 2015 Scottish Young Lawyers' Association and WS Society Writing Competition, announced today.

Young lawyers are invited to submit an article, 650 words long, on the subject: "Innovation is the buzz word in the Scottish legal profession at the moment. What opportunities and challenges does the passing of the Courts Reform (Scotland) Act 2014 mean for the future of legal services in Scotland?"

The winning article will be published in the WS Society's summer edition of the Signet Magazine in 2015, which has over 1,200 subscribers and is sent to all WS firms and members. The winner will also be given a year's free affiliate (or equivalent) membership of the WS Society, a free place at the SYLA Annual Conference in May 2015 and a free place at the WS Society Annual Dinner in November 2015.

Affiliate membership of the WS Society entitles the member to access and use the Signet Library, receive regular professional update e-bulletins, discounted rates for the Society's CPD and educational programmes, and invitations to Society social events.

Entries should be sent to mail@syla.co.uk by 2359 hours on 31 January 2015. A shortlist of five articles will be selected by the SYLA executive committee before the final winner is chosen by the chief executive and senior office bearer of the WS Society, both senior practising solicitors.
