Alex Sharples

Partner
Trowers & Hamlins

Alex is a Partner in Commercial Litigation department and he works across our Exeter and London offices. He joined Trowers & Hamlins in February 2021 after 11 years in London at a top city practice.

Alex has extensive experience in advising and representing clients in relation to complex and high-value disputes ranging from general Commercial Litigation through to arbitrations and international disputes in different jurisdictions across the world.

He frequently advises on disputes of a multi-party and/or cross-border nature, in various industry sectors. Alex has particular experience of advising in connection with disputes arising for clients in the energy, IT and defence industry sectors.

Within the energy sector, Alex has previously worked with clients on some of the most high profile cases to come before the English courts in recent years. These include cross-border disputes in the context of major projects, drilling contracts and gas sales agreements. He has advised on claims arising out of projects in the UK, Europe, Norway and West Africa.

Within the IT sector, Alex has previously worked with both customers and suppliers in relation to complex disputes arising from large IT transformation projects and software replacement and upgrades.

Alex represents clients in court and arbitration proceedings and also in alternative dispute resolution processes such as mediation and expert determination. Alex also has experience of managing disputes in the Middle East.

Alex was also previously seconded for 6 months to the in-house legal team of a major UK airport, advising on a broad range of legal issues including commercial disputes, commercial contracts and property issues.
