Alison Howells

Child Protection Solicitor
City of Edinburgh Council

Alison Howells is a Child Protection Solicitor within the litigation team at the City of Edinburgh Council. Alison provides advice and representation in a range of child law matters including – child protection orders, children’s hearings, permanence orders and adoption. 

Before joining the City of Edinburgh Council as a Child Protection Solicitor in 2024, Alison practiced a Child and Family Law Solicitor with a legal aid firm in Edinburgh, representing clients in children’s hearings and court proceedings across Scotland. Her practice included pursuing protective orders for victims of Domestic Abuse and Alison acted as one of the few solicitors supporting legal aid clients signposted by the Scottish Women’s Rights Centre. 

Alison has previously had her work on the civil remedies for Domestic Abuse in Scotland published in the Edinburgh Student Law Review and currently sits on the Civil Remedies for Domestic Abuse Advisory Group with the Scottish Law Commission. 

In her free time, Alison volunteers as a panel member with Children’s Hearings Scotland in addition to tutoring undergraduate students on the Family Law Course at the University of Edinburgh."
