Garry Sturrock

Senior Associate
Brodies (Accredited Specialist in Family Law and Family Law Mediator)

Garry advises clients on all aspects of family law, including separation, divorce, cohabitant’s rights, pre-nuptial agreements and child related issues such as residence and contact disputes, adoptions and children’s hearings. He has a particular interest and experience in child cases and was added to the roll of Child Welfare Reporters and Curators ad litem in August 2020 for Aberdeen Sheriff Court and Peterhead Sheriff Court. He is accredited by the Law Society of Scotland as a Family Law Specialist and a Child Law Specialist, and is President of the Aberdeen Bar Association.

Garry undertook his traineeship with the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service, where he worked as a Procurator Fiscal Depute in courts across Scotland, gaining significant court experience. Following qualification, Garry worked in the North East and gained exposure to complex and difficult cases. He joined Brodies in June 2018. Whilst he has a wealth of experience in litigation work, he also shares the commitment of his colleagues to dispute resolution options including collaboration and mediation. Garry is a qualified Collaborative Family Lawyer and member of Consensus and an accredited Family Law Mediator and member of CALM Scotland.

Garry has gained a reputation for his tenacious presentation of client’s cases and is passionate about promoting pragmatic, workable solutions that ensure positive outcomes for children and equitable settlements in financial cases. Garry is based in our Aberdeen office.
