Jamie McGowan
Jamie called to the bar as the Lord Reid Scholar, an annual award given to the most outstanding candidate.
Jamie practices in all areas of commercial dispute resolution, such as contract, technology, intellectual property, financial services and professional negligence. Since calling to the Bar, Jamie has assisted with a number of multi-million pound commercial cases and has specific experience dealing with litigation in the whisky sector and the wholesale sectors. Jamie is a tutor on the Commercial Litigation course at the University of Edinburgh.
Jamie is mostly known for his varied and complex caseload in public and administrative law, and regularly provides advice to various major public authorities throughout Scotland. He is a specialist in Constitutional Law and Human Rights. He accepts instructions in all areas of public law, including procurement, competition, regulatory, environmental, and Equality Act challenges.
Jamie accepts instructions in tax litigation. He deals with tax appeals across the UK, and he can be instructed directly by accountants and other tax professionals.
Jamie is also an academic. He is a PhD Candidate at the University of Glasgow, where he is writing a thesis on Constitutional Law and the Philosophy of St Thomas Aquinas.
