Lesley Carcary

Lesley Carcary is the Director of Hourglass Scotland (formerly Action on Elder Abuse Scotland). She took up post in May 2015 to set up and develop the charity’s work in Scotland. Prior to this, Lesley had a long career in the disability sector, including Senior Policy and Information Officer at Lead Scotland (and previously Skill Scotland), national charities which support and protect the rights and interests of disabled learners. She was responsible for setting up and managing a national Helpline at Lead Scotland, delivering training, and leading on projects to support disabled learners to make smooth and supported transitions to college and university.

She has held various roles in the public sector, including policy and research posts at the Scottish Funding Council for Further and Higher Education, and the Scottish Government. Her career has very much focussed on advocating for an inclusive and human-rights based approach towards supporting disabled people, an approach which she has continued to advocate at Action on Elder Abuse.

She has a degree in Politics and Social Policy from the University of Edinburgh, and is married with two children.
