Michael Dean

Partner
Dentons

Michael is a partner in our UK Competition law practice.

He has long experience of assisting clients in all areas of competition law, including collective claims or class actions before the Competition Appeal Tribunal, merger clearances at UK and EU level, distribution and supply chain issues, dawn raids, cartel investigations, foreign investment screening, and National Security and Investment Act reviews.

Michael also advises on state aid/subsidy control public procurement law and anti-bribery compliance. He provides a range of clients across the UK, Ireland and beyond with competition law training and advice.

He is a member of the Joint Working Party of the Bars and Law Societies of the United Kingdom on Competition Law. Michael is also the Honorary Consul for Germany in Glasgow.

Michael is admitted in the jurisdictions of England, Ireland and Scotland and has been Band 1 ranked by Chambers and Partners and Legal 500 for many years.

Experience

  • Successful court challenge to a Phase 2 merger decision of the UK merger authority on grounds of lack of adequate reasoning and successfully reversing negative Phase 1 initial findings to obtain clearance.
  • Provision of competition law compliance training to clients in various jurisdictions including the UK, Ireland, Sweden, Norway, France, Germany, Spain, the US and Canada.
  • Handling dawn raids and competition law investigations involving alleged cartels across numerous European jurisdictions.
  • Merger clearances from the European Commission and UK competition authorities.

Recognition

Chambers and Partners said: "He understands our business and shows a willingness to really argue our corner when necessary whilst still giving clear and legally sound advice."
