Nicola Hogg
Nicola was a solicitor for over 20 years before calling to the bar in 2025. She worked in private practice and for local authorities. She obtained from the Law Society of Scotland specialist accreditation in child law from 2017 (to 2021) and her civil Rights of Audience in 2021.
She has experience in the Sheriff Courts, Education Chamber and Housing and Property Chamber of the First Tier Tribunals, Employment Tribunal and Court of Session.
Working for small firms she did civil litigation and in a large city firm specialised in commercial and property litigation. Whilst in local government she gained experience in a wide variety of matters including permanence for children, child and adult protection orders (including forced marriage and guardianships), judicial reviews relating to age assessments and homelessness, recovery of possession of heritable property, commercial lease disputes including dilapidations and debt recovery disputes, education placing appeals and additional support needs placing appeals and Civic Government licensing appeals.
Nicola was also a legal advisor on secondment for two years to a Corporate Transformation team within the Council. She advised on governance, GDPR, employment and key policy changes to adult social policy and a housing scheme of assistance.
Nicola is a part-time tutor of Civil Court Practice on the Diploma in Legal Practice at the University of Edinburgh.
