What will I study at the University of Strathclyde?

Students are assigned to firms of four at the start of the course. Most of the teaching and learning is done in these firms. Teaching and supervision is provided by practising solicitors, who have been trained as course tutors.
In addition to learning legal subjects, students will also develop generic skills which are required for professional life including:
- problem solving
- oral and written presentations
- interviewing
- negotiation
In the first semester full time students will study the core modules:-
Professional Practice and Ethics
Business and Financial Awareness
Conveyancing
Private Client
Criminal Litigation
Civil Litigation
For the part time cohort, the core subjects are taken over the two years of study in the first semester of each year.
In the second semester students have a choice of 5 subjects (part-time students will study 5 electives over the 2 years; 2 in year 1 and 3 in year 2) from 14 available electives and the timetable will vary depending on the subjects taken. Classes will generally still be held over 4 days per week Monday to Friday.
Students on the full time course and year 1 part time course will also continue with the Professional Practice and Ethics module and complete the Personal Injury Claim Handling module.

Full-time students
9 months - on campus during the day. Delivered September to April.
Part-time students
2 years – on campus during the evening.
Two blocks of study delivered September to April of each year of study.
