Pat Thom takes up the reins as the Society's President

General Counsel, Executive Director and dual-qualified solicitor Ben Kemp will join the Law Society of Scotland as Chief Executive Officer in August.

Scotland's legal aid system is in jeopardy, with nearly a third of legal aid solicitors expected to retire within the next decade. Immediate action from the Scottish Government is essential to prevent the system's potential collapse within 10 years. Our new campaign urges protection of the rights of the less advantaged and keeping legal aid on the political agenda.

After a decade-long campaign, new legislation will better protect legal services consumers and benefit Scotland’s legal sector. The Regulation of Legal Services (Scotland) Bill will see the Law Society continue as the independent regulator of Scottish solicitors, while gaining new powers to act in the public interest.
