Chair and advisory board members

Are you looking for an opportunity to get involved in legal technology innovation in Scotland and promote the benefits of tech to the legal profession? The LawscotTech Advisory Board is looking to appoint a new chair and additional advisory board members.

About LawscotTech

LawscotTech is a Law Society of Scotland initiative which brings together experts from the legal and technology worlds to deliver practical benefits for those working in the justice and legal sectors and their clients. It is led by an Advisory Board made up of solicitors, legaltech experts and Law Society executive staff. Through our connections, we are well placed to reach out to the legal profession, technology firms, the academic community and other business sectors with similar programmes, such as the financial sector. Our cross-border cooperation with other regulators means we can make it easier for legaltech providers to understand the differing legal landscapes of the three jurisdictions of the United Kingdom.

Since LawscotTech was established, there has been a dramatic shift in interest in legal technology. Recent research shows that our members regard legal technology as a high priority area for the Law Society to show leadership. We have recently refreshed the LawscotTech Advisory Board governance to create new roles which we will be recruiting for over the summer.

Our annual plan for 2022/23 can be viewed here.

Selection criteria and commitment

Our vacancies are for a solicitor chair and both solicitor and non-solicitor advisory board members.

  • It is more important that applicants are curious and enthusiastic about legaltech, rather than being experts in the subject. We are looking for individuals who can use their enthusiasm to help connect and communicate with the profession.
  • The chair and vice-chair will be instrumental in developing a new strategy for LawscotTech which aligns with the Society’s overarching strategic direction
  • We believe that more people – and importantly a diverse range of people – who can speak about LawscotTech is essential if we are to maintain our commitment to diversity and inclusion.
  • The Advisory Board meets for one hour between five and ten times each year.
  • Appointments are for a three-year term, renewable once.
  • The chair, vice chair and the executive team are expected to represent LawscotTech at speaking engagements.

Please see the terms of reference for more details on the roles.

If you would like an informal discussion about the roles, please email paulmosson@lawscot.org.uk. If applying, please send a CV and supporting statement about why you would like to lead our work on the Advisory Board to paulmosson@lawscot.org.uk.

Closing date for application is Tuesday 28 February 2023.
