Deadline approaches for Society mentoring applicants

Solicitors, trainees and students on the Diploma in Professional Legal Practice have until the end of this week to sign up for the next mentoring scheme run by the Law Society of Scotland.

The legal careers mentoring scheme is about to run for a second year, following the success of last year's pilot programme.

It aims to match mentees with mentors, so that knowledge and advice from more experienced lawyers can help guide other solicitors and students through their career.

Heather McKendrick, careers and outreach manager at the Society said: “The first mentoring scheme was a great success, with both mentees and mentors saying they found it really helpful, so we’re keen for others to get involved.

“Many people say to me they wish they had a mentor early in their careers, someone more experienced who could give them a manager’s view of things. Being mentored gives you a great opportunity to learn from someone else’s experience, help develop your career and gain another perspective on issues or challenges that arise in everyday working life.”

David Bryson, a mentor from last year’s pilot scheme said: “I think everyone could do with the support a mentor offers as they develop their career. The Law Society’s programme has been incredibly helpful as it allows a generation of lawyers to benefit from more support.”

Mentees can be from all areas of practice and at any stage of their career. Anyone wanting to be mentored should complete and submit an application form by 5pm on 7 November.
