Legal theme gifts offered to support Lawscot Foundation

8th December 2021 | Charities

Law Society of Scotland charity the Lawscot Foundation has partnered with Hey Legal and Buddies Gin to offer the opportunity to buy unique Christmas gifts while supporting academically talented students from less-advantaged backgrounds.

Paisley company Buddies Gin has produced an exclusive run of 100 limited edition bottles of gin to commemorate the 90th anniversary (in 2022) of arguably one of the most famous legal cases in history. Donoghue v Stevenson, the case of the "Paisley snail" in a bottle of ginger beer, was instrumental in moulding the law of negligence.

David Montgomery, director of Buddies Gin said: "Each bottle sold will include a donation to Lawscot Foundation which will support the lawyers of the future whilst celebrating an important historical legal case in our home town of Paisley. As a Paisley based business and local Buddies we are proud to share a piece of Paisley history with the world, and what better way to celebrate than with a Buddies gin and tonic."

In addition, Hey Legal, a news and events company for the Scottish legal sector, has produced a 2022 calendar showcasing pets who have become co-workers for legal professionals working from home. All profits from sales of the calendar will go to the Lawscot Foundation.

Ally Thomson, Hey Legal director said: " We are delighted to partner with Lawscot Foundation for our charity calendar this year. Hopefully we can raise significant funds to help with the great work that the Foundation does to help launch new legal careers for many who may not be able to do so without support."

Kerri Montgomery of the Lawscot Foundation fundraising committee commented: "I am delighted to be involved in these brilliant partnerships in support of the Lawscot Foundation. The Law Society of Scotland set the charity up in 2016 to level the playing field in terms of access to the profession and we have seen some truly gifted and inspirational young people start their legal educations as a result.

"Lawyers all over the world know of the ‘snail in the ginger bottle case’, and the legal profession have proven themselves to be devoted animal lovers, by sharing photos of their furry friends. So it is only fitting that the Lawscot Foundation have teamed up with Buddies gin on this premium Scottish craft gin and Hey Legal on their Pets of the Scottish Legal Sector charity calendar. These will make wonderful gifts and a fantastic way to support the many students who benefit from the support of the Lawscot Foundation."
