One of the longest serving Court of Session judges has retired after nearly 19 years on the bench.

Admitted to the Faculty of Advocates in 1976 and becoming Queen's Counsel in 1988, Lord Drummond Young was installed as a senator in July 2001, and was appointed to the Inner House in 2013. He also served as chairman of the Scottish Law Commission from 2007 to early 2012.

He is co-author with John St Clair of The Law of Corporate Insolvency in Scotland.
