Society launches business skills training series

8th March 2018 | education-training , law society of scotland

A new series of business skills training, open to professionals in any industry, has been launched by the Law Society of Scotland.

Developed in partnership with Sandstone Communications, the programme of events and videos will be open to professionals at an early stage in their careers and is designed to help aspiring business leaders to develop their commercial awareness and practical skills.

Each event will be preceded by a short video with practical advice, top tips and techniques for developing a particular commercial skill. The corresponding event will build on this advice with high quality, face-to-face training.

The first topic in the series focuses on presentation skills, and the first video is available at www.lawscot.org.uk/GetCommercial

Future topics in the series will include networking, business development and negotiation.

Olivia Parker, careers development officer at the Law Society of Scotland, commented: "Developing your career means mastering more than black letter law and in today’s marketplace technical skills aren’t enough to spell success. Tomorrow’s solicitors need to be business people who practise law and we’re excited to launch the commercial skills for young professionals programme to help them do just that."

Tim Bradshaw, director at Sandstone Communications, added: "Communication skills are key to success in business, and we are delighted to be working with the Law Society of Scotland to help NQs to acquire the skills which they will need to progress their careers."
