Young Professionals in Construction networking group launches

10th September 2015 | Construction

A cross-industry networking group for the construction and engineering sector has been formed by up-and-coming members of three professions.

Solicitors from law firm Maclay Murray and Spens (MMS), have combined with BAM Construction and architects 3DReid to launch Young Professionals in Construction (YPiC).

Linzi Coates-Hedalen and Susan Currie, both solicitors in the construction and engineering practice at MMS, teamed up with contacts in the other firms after realising that there was a lack of forums for young professionals to meet and build the relationships needed to take their career to the next level.

The collaboration is believed to be the first of its kind in Scotland. it aims to reach out to young professionals including employers, contractors, subcontractors and specialist contractors, members of the design team, surveyors, architects and contract administrators.

YPiC is now open to new members and the first event will be a drinks reception on Wednesday 30 September in Edinburgh.

Ms Coates-Hedalen said: “Susan and I realised that there were very few forums for young professionals to network in our industry, so we decided to make one available.

“We approached BAM Construction and 3DReid to partner with MMS and create an independent body that will provide a relaxed and effective means for young professionals in our industry to meet and network with each other.

“We hope YPiC will help bolster good working relationships, encourage long term professional connections and allow people to better understand the roles of others working in different areas of their industry. This is particularly valuable for young professionals as they seek to lay the foundations for a successful career in the construction and engineering sector.”
