Becoming a Tech-Informed Lawyer is a decision to propel your career and your firm forward.

In today’s fast-paced world, technology isn’t just a tool; it’s a game-changer for the practice of law. Yet for many lawyers, legal tech can feel like a maze of jargon and complexity, with missed opportunities around every corner.

But what if it didn’t have to be that way?

Imagine being the lawyer who not only understands the ins and outs of legal tech but also leverages it to streamline work, impress clients, and give your firm and career a competitive edge. Our Certification Course is designed specifically for lawyers across all practice areas who recognise the value of staying ahead in a rapidly evolving field. No previous tech knowledge is required - this is a course for every lawyer.

Spaces are Limited to 20 Lawyers Per Cohort – Don’t Miss Out!

Our small class size ensures a truly interactive experience tailored to your needs. By the end, you’ll have the skills and confidence to bring transformative tech insights to your firm—whether it's to serve clients more effectively or simply work smarter, not harder.

- Practical knowledge to help you implement tech solutions that actually work, no matter your firm’s size or current tech setup.

- Enhanced productivity skills that can save you hours each week and boost your team’s efficiency.

- A forward-looking mindset to meet clients' evolving expectations and make your practice future-ready.

The Course at a Glance:

Over 20 hours, you’ll complete:

- 6 short online, interactive tutorials (12 hours CPD)

- A practical assignment (4 hours CPD)

- Focused private study (4 hours)

Successful completion not only covers your CPD requirements for the year but also earns you a Law Society of Scotland Certification, valid for three years before recertification.

What have people said about training with Ally Thomson?

The Legal Technology Certification Course, with Ally Thomson as the trainer, provided me with a greater awareness of the trends and patterns found in the legal-technology sector. The different course components allowed me to identify how technology can be applied more practically, which has fundamentally helped facilitate my growth as a tech-informed trainee solicitor. As a result of the course, I am now better positioned to navigate technology related changes in the legal sector – and how this should be approached in relation to commercial awareness more generally. In short, the course and Ally provided me with the right set of skills to understand the ways in which legal professionals (of varying experiences) will need to adapt in the coming years to new technologies in the workplace!
Nicholas Oprescu-Havriliuc, Trainee Solicitor at MBM Commercial LLP
Fantastic course, with a truly engaging facilitator. Highly recommend to anyone with a desire to improve their understanding of legal tech and better harness their existing capabilities.
Joanna Jervis, MDDUS
The course was a great opportunity to learn about current technological developments and products designed specially for the legal market. However, being able to discuss the opportunities (and struggles!) to promote the effective use of legal technology in our own area of practice, with like minded solicitors from varying legal backgrounds was incredibly useful.
Claire Stevenson, Carey Hughes Limited
The course content was highly engaging. Ally’s expertise in technology and online projects since 2005 was evident throughout. The material was presented in manageable chunks, allowing me to learn at my own pace. Ally’s practical insights into legal technology were invaluable. From understanding emerging trends to navigating the digital landscape, the course provided real-world applications that I can immediately implement in my practice. In summary, the Legal Technology Certification Course with Ally Thomson is a must for any lawyer looking to stay ahead in the ever-evolving legal tech landscape. Kudos to Ally and the Law Society of Scotland for offering such a valuable learning opportunity!
Juan Carlos Garcia-Ferres, Harper Macleod LLP
A really enjoyable and insightful course. Particular highlights were Laura Jeffords Greenberg from Wordsmith, John Craske from CMS and Jane McCance from Thorntons. Great range of speakers and good to see them using their platforms in demos. Ally was good at facilitating the chat and keeping things moving as ever
I've really enjoyed the course. It's been really helpful to take a step back and look at how we can improve efficiencies to help maximise the opportunities of so much tech change. Some excellent speakers and all very well co-ordinated by Ally who kept us engaged throughout. Its been a varied course and we've explored some areas such as AI developments in real depth. I feel far less daunted and much better informed on how best to go about embracing legal tech changes within both my own personal development and my firms. Overall a very worthwhile course.
The course was really informative and I came away with lots of practical tips which I shall be sharing with my team and putting into practice. It was also really useful to also learn about what other legal practices are doing in terms of tech and learning about their challenges but also the solutions that they'd found. I look forward to putting what I've learned into practice and feel more confident in trying it the technologies we discussed and explored during the course.
Ally has been an insightful & engaging communicator bringing to life in an effective and really practical way the challenges faced in navigating Legal Tech. And then he shows or gives you waypoints as to where the solutions might lie. The participants were from a diverse range of practice sizes and sectors and I think all will have gone away learning something and invigorated about the real wins for our clients, our staff and firm as a whole that can be gained from embracing Legal Tech in how we do our business.
A highly engaging, informative and useful course to help guide you through the ever changing tech jungle, highly recommended!
Having watched Ally on Hey Legal I knew the course would be interesting given his involvement in the sector and the tech and it was something out of the normal day job that was of interest to me - I have learned a lot of information about what is out there and met some new colleagues who share the same interest in adopting Legal Tech. Really enjoyed the course and the knowledge sharing will continue on.
