Cryptocurrency is rapidly becoming mainstream in the world of finance, with the Financial Conduct Authority finding that 12% of adults in the United Kingdom now own crypto. It is favoured by consumers for the investment opportunities that it offers and the anonymity that it promises through reliance on cryptographic technology.

However, the anonymity offered by cryptocurrency also makes it an attractive weapon for financial criminals looking to conceal their identity. As cryptocurrency grows in prominence, it is important for legal professionals to understand the risks that it poses and how to best respond when encountering crypto in practice.

In this webinar, we will be joined by Jeff Thompson from the National Crime Agency, who will discuss the unique threat that cryptocurrency poses to the legal sector.

Attendance at this webinar will fulfil the annual one hour of Risk Management CPD required by all Scottish solicitors.

Learning outcomes:

  • Understand the uses and capabilities of cryptocurrency.
  • Gain insight into the risk posed to legal services by cryptocurrency through real-life case studies.
  • Develop your confidence in noticing warning signs and responding appropriately.
