Are you looking to progress your in-house career?

Advance your skills and learn more about career progression from experienced in-house lawyers and colleagues of the Law Society of Scotland.

This course is specifically designed for those who have several years’ experience in-house, having trained in-house or moved to an in-house role from private practice. This will be of direct benefit to anyone who is sole counsel, or anyone who has leadership responsibilities (such as, line management). This course will support those working in both the public and private sectors through providing guidance and practical tips. Moreover, this course will be of wider benefit to any organisation employing in-house counsel, as delegates will be equipped with the knowledge and skills to work efficiently and in a cost-effective manner. We will discuss aspects such as how to take the next career step for your in-house practice, including exploring line management and leadership responsibilities, and also how to engage effectively with senior managers and executives.

You will also participate in group discussions where you will be able to connect with other delegates and share your experiences, challenge your thinking, and explore how you would handle difficult situations.

Learning outcomes:

  • Learn how to progress your career and develop the skills necessary to lead a team or manage the workload of an organisation as soul counsel.
  • Identify key in-house attributes, skills and knowledge.
  • Learn how to establish and manage expectations.
  • Improve your alignment within your organisation.
  • Refresh your knowledge on risk management.
  • Explore how to respond to and manage a crisis effectively.
