Strengthen your advocacy skills with our 2-day practical ‘Trial Advocacy Fundamentals’ training course designed to equip you with the skills required to conduct effective examination in chief and cross examination in criminal trial and civil proofs.

Designed and delivered by Angus Crawford of Expert Advocacy, lead trainer at the Scottish Prosecution College and National Institute of Trial Advocacy accredited trainer, this course is designed for trainees and newly qualified practitioners seeking to build a strong foundation in advocacy, as well as more experienced practitioners looking to refresh and refine their approach.

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Maximise the effect of examination in chief and cross examination

  • Apply a range of effective questioning techniques

  • Understand the impact of communication style

  • Understand the importance of active listening to respond effectively in real time

  • Examine witnesses with confidence and appropriate assertiveness

  • Recognise supportive facts to be obtained from a witness

  • Identify key areas to be addressed in chief and cross-examination

  • Understand the role of narrative and 'story’ in presenting a case

  • Ensure all questioning support and leads towards final submissions and jury speeches

Due to the practical nature of the course and to ensure all delegates receive personalised feedback, this course will be limited to 12 participants.
