Site to behold

The Journal Online, already a daily part of many solicitors’ lives over the past four years, has just taken a big leap forward.

Anyone who has logged on to the site since early this month will have seen a completely fresh design, with added features to enhance the site as a means of communication – both by the Law Society of Scotland and by the site’s many visitors.

Not only that, but the recruitment section has been relaunched with its own home page – www.lawscotjobs.co.uk – and new functionality including candidate registration with the facility for candidates to submit CV details for viewing by prospective recruiters and employers.

New additions to the site, directly accessible from the home page www.journalonline.co.uk, are: blogs – one from Journal editor Peter Nicholson, and one from office bearers and executive of the Society, will offer comment on emerging issues, and invite readers’ feedback; surveys – a regularly changing online survey will give you the chance to cast a vote on a topical issue; competition – a weekly prize puzzle, initially sponsored by Single Malts Direct.

Another opportunity for user feedback comes via the “comment on this article” option for magazine features posted online in future.

All the regular features from the original site remain – the popular daily news service (with weekly email option); the magazine archive, now covering 10 years of Journal issues; the events diary; and articles not published in the magazine, now labelled “extras”.

The Journal Online remains AA standard disability compliant.

Welcoming the new design, Richard Henderson, President of the Law Society of Scotland, said: “The relaunched Journal Online gives a fresh new look to the website of the Journal, which is an award-winning professional magazine. New features such as blogs and closer links to the Society’s own website will hopefully encourage more people to use both websites as good sources for legal news and information. There is something of interest and importance to everyone in the profession, wherever they work.”

The Society is particularly pleased to be able to offer the enhanced recruitment site at a time of increased uncertainty for both current and intending solicitors. Henry Robson, depute chief executive of the Society, said: “By introducing a new legal recruitment website, we are hoping it will offer a useful tool for both solicitors and trainees looking for jobs and firms looking to fill vacancies. www.lawscotjobs.co.uk has lots of features such as a CV posting area and job email alerts.” .
