Collected news of new appointments and practice changes
14th April 2014

ABERDEIN CONSIDINE, Aberdeen and elsewhere, has appointed Naeema Sajid as a partner at its Exchange Tower, Edinburgh, office, where she will provide family law services. She joins from DRUMMOND MILLER LLP.

The firm has also promoted Isabelle Douglas to associate partner, and Leah Bowman to senior solicitor, within its established family law team in Aberdeen.

BRODIES LLP, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen, has appointed Donna Kelly-Gilmour (who joins from WRIGHT JOHNSTONE & MACKENZIE) as a partner in its Real Estate team, based in Glasgow, from 10 March 2014, and Sarah Sleigh (who joins from GREEN CAT RENEWABLES) as a director in its Energy & Infrastructure team, based in Aberdeen, from 17 March 2014. Both work in renewable energy. The firm has also appointed Tom Hickey, who is dual qualified in England & Wales and in the State of California, to its oil and gas team from 6 April 2014. He joins from TRANSOCEAN, where he was general counsel, and will continue to operate from Paris.

BRECHIN TINDAL OATTS, Glasgow and Edinburgh, has announced the appointment of Julie Scott as an associate in its Construction & Engineering team. Based in the Edinburgh office, she joins from BURNESS PAULL. The firm has also announced that Alan Borthwick, previously head of the Property & Real Estate team, became chairman on 1 April 2014, succeeding Willie Young, who retired from the firm on that date to pursue other interests.

Norman Douglas Paton Cathcart, solicitor, Glasgow announces that, with effect from 10 March 2014, he has retired as a partner of CAMPBELL CATHCART, Solicitors, Glasgow.

DAC BEACHCROFT SCOTLAND, Edinburgh, intimate the retirement of Alastair H Lockhart as a consultant in the firm with effect from 30 April 2014.

DICKSON MINTO WS, Edinburgh and London, are pleased to announce the assumption of Christopher William Barron as partner of the firm, with effect from 7 April 2014.

DLA PIPER, Edinburgh and elsewhere, has appointed Lillian Mackenzie as a partner in the Projects team, part of the Finance & Projects group. She joins the firm from MACROBERTS, where she was a partner.

DWF, Glasgow, Edinburgh and elsewhere, has appointed Paul Mason as a senior associate in its Edinburgh real estate team. He joins from EVERSHEDS.

GIBSON KERR, Edinburgh, are pleased to announce that Eilidh Beattie has joined the firm as a family law solicitor.

GILLESPIE GIFFORD & BROWN LLP, Castle Douglas, Kirkcudbright, Dumfries and Dalbeattie, are pleased to announce the appointment of Heather Margaret Young and Claire Margaret Jackson as associates with the firm with effect from 1 April 2014. They also intimate that, with effect from that date, Gavin Stewart Scott has retired as a partner, but will continue to practise as a consultant with the firm.

GILLESPIE MACANDREW, Edinburgh and Perth, announce that Murray Shaw has been appointed as a partner. A leading planning and construction lawyer, he joins from BIGGART BAILLIE, where he was chairman and senior partner at the time of its merger with DWF in 2012.

The partners of HBM SAYERS, Glasgow and Edinburgh, are delighted to announce that Shirley Wyles and Greg MacDougall, both of the Edinburgh office, were assumed partners of the firm with effect from 1 February 2014. The firm has also announced that it is to merge with English firm BERRYMANS LACE MAWER, with effect from1 May 2014. The combined firm will be known as BLM, and will have 12 offices in the UK and Ireland.

LINDSAYS, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dundee, Jedburgh and North Berwick, has appointed Iain Penman, currently a senior associate (based in Edinburgh), and John Bett, who joins from McCLURE NAISMITH (based in Glasgow), as partners in its Dispute Resolution & Litigation Team.

The firm has also appointed Mark Little, previously the managing director of BARCLAYS WEALTH and Global Head of automotive research at DEUTSCHE BANK, to work with the firm’s management team on a consultancy basis, aiming to help further develop the firm’s wealth management services.

LOWS ORKNEY LTD, 5 Broad Street, Kirkwall, is delighted to announce that Catherine Marie Smith was appointed as a director of the company with effect from 1 March 2014.

MACROBERTS, Glasgow, Edinburgh and Dundee, has announced three lateral hires at partner level. Roddy MacLennan, who joins the banking team, and Lisa Frost (commercial property) join from TODS MURRAY, and Jacqueline Stroud, who joins as head of family law, has moved from DRUMMOND MILLER.

MUNRO LIDDELL, Motherwell, intimate that with effect from 10 March 2014 Carolyn Lannigan has been promoted to associate.

SHOOSMITHS, Edinburgh and elsewhere, announce that Kenny Scott has been appointed a senior associate in its Edinburgh office. He joins from McCLURE NAISMITH.

WRIGHT JOHNSTON & MACKENZIE announce that their Edinburgh office is now at The Capital Building, 12/13 St Andrew Square, Edinburgh EH2 2AF. The telephone number is now 0131 524 1500, and fax is 0131 524 1529. Email addresses remain unchanged.

TC YOUNG LLP, Glasgow and Edinburgh, has merged with WILSON TERRIS & CO SSC, Edinburgh, with effect from 1April 2014. The solicitors and staff of Wilson Terris moved to TC Young’s Edinburgh office at 69a George Street, where the private client business will practise under the name of TC YOUNG WILSON TERRIS. Grant Knight has become a partner and George Scott an associate in TC Young. The remainder of TC Young’s practice will continue under the name TC YOUNG.
