Collected news of Scottish legal appointments and practice changes
15th August 2022

BLACKADDERS LLP, Dundee and elsewhere, has announced new board appointments to serve alongside newly elected joint managing partners Emma Gray and Ryan McKay. Laura McDowall, head of the Private Client group, Simon Allison, head of Employment, and Kirk Dailly, head of Corporate & Commercial, have joined the board. Campbell Clark, head of the Business Services group, has been reappointed. Peter Duff remains chairman.

BROWN & McRAE, Fraserburgh and Turriff, intimate that with effect from 30 June 2022, Graeme Walker has retired from the firm. Brown & McRae wish Graeme a long and happy retirement.

W & A S BRUCE, Dunfermline, intimate that Keith Kordula retired as a partner of the firm with effect from 31 July 2022. 

CAESAR & HOWIE, Bathgate and elsewhere, wishes to announce that, with effect from 1 July 2022, Greg Douglas has been assumed as a partner and Martin Donnelly has been promoted to associate. 

GILLESPIE MACANDREW, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Perth, has appointed Michael Shaw as its new chair. After more than 20 years in private practice at HERBERT SMITH FREEHILLS and CLIFFORD CHANCE, he was deputy group general counsel at BARCLAYS, and then RBS/NATWEST GROUP general counsel from 2016, prior to retiring earlier this year. Fiona Morton has retired from the role after five years with the firm.

GILSON GRAY, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dundee and North Berwick, has opened an office at Blenheim Gate, Blenheim Place, Aberdeen AB25 2DZ. The office, which will be full service, will be headed by partners Calum Crighton, who currently leads the Oil, Gas & Energy team, and Richard Shepherd of Real Estate. 

JAMESON+MACKAY LLP, Perth and Auchterarder, are delighted to announce the appointment of Samantha Kennedy as an associate with effect from 1 August 2022.

LEVY & McRAE, Glasgow and Edinburgh, has appointed Craig Christie as an associate in civil litigation, working with its Medical Negligence arm L&M MEDILAW.

MBM COMMERCIAL, Edinburgh and London, has appointed John Nimmo as a partner in the Corporate team based in Edinburgh. He joins from ROONEY NIMMO. The firm has also announced these promotions in its Edinburgh office: in the Corporate team, Craig Edward and Ross Byford to director, Greg Coats to senior associate and Ruairidh Morrison to associate; and in the Intellectual Property, Data & Contracts team, Danielle Prado to senior associate.

NESS GALLAGHER, Motherwell and Wishaw, has announced the promotion of family lawyer Louise Gillies, an accredited mediator in family mediation, to director.

STODARTS LLP, Hamilton, is pleased to announce that Joanne Hogg has been appointed as a member of the LLP with effect from 1 September 2022.

THORNTONS LAW LLP, Dundee and elsewhere, has announced a round of promotions. Kathleen-Erin Lawson (Personal Injury, Edinburgh), Susan Dunn (Residential Conveyancing, Cupar) and Chris Gardiner (Private Client, Dundee) become partners. Four new legal directors are Gurjit Pall (Immigration Law, Glasgow), Stephanie Watson (Personal Injury, Edinburgh), Lisa Hainey (Wills, Trusts & Succession Planning, Cupar), and Cheryl Wallace (Family Law, Cupar).

There are two new associates, Michaela Dougan (Personal Injury) and Hannah Fitzgibbon (Wills, Trusts & Succession Planning), both based in Edinburgh; and three new senior solicitors, Andrew Sergeant (Commercial Real Estate, Edinburgh), Iain Boyd (Dispute Resolution & Claims, Edinburgh), and Stacey Jackson (Wills, Trusts & Succession Planning, Arbroath).
