Collected news of new appointments and practice changes

ANDERSON SHAW & GILBERT, Inverness, has appointed Eilidh Ross MacLellan, who joins from INKSTERS, as an associate working in crofting and rural legal practice, and Elise Thomson, who rejoins the firm as an associate in the family law department.

ANDERSON STRATHERN, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Haddington, has appointed Robbie Wilson as a senior associate specialising in medical negligence. He joins from DRUMMOND MILLER.

BALFOUR+MANSON, Edinburgh and Aberdeen, is to merge with DUTHIE WARD, Aberdeen, from 30 June 2016. Balfour+Manson will move its Aberdeen staff into Duthie Ward’s offices at 42 Carden Place, Aberdeen AB10 1UP, from its current premises in Albyn Place. Duthie Ward’s partners, Alastair Duthie and Richard Ward, will join Balfour+Manson as consultants. Their staff will also join Balfour+Manson. (Correction to the notice published last month, which gave the year 2018 in error.)

CANNONS LAW PRACTICE LLP, Glasgow announces that Kimberley Berry has joined the firm as a solicitor in its property department, from BRODIES LLP.

DWF LLP, Edinburgh, Glasgow and elsewhere, has appointed Caroline Colliston, a dual-qualified solicitor and a chartered tax adviser, as a director in the firm’s tax team, based in Edinburgh. She joins from BLACKWOOD PARTNERS LLP. The firm has also apppointed Jill Sinclair, who joins from HARPER MACLEOD, as head of its new Counter Fraud team in Scotland.

GILLESPIE MACANDREW, Edinburgh, Perth and Glasgow, has appointed corporate and commercial solicitor Chris Gibson as an associate in its Edinburgh office. Dual qualified in Scotland and England, he joins from JACKSONS, Newcastle upon Tyne.

THE KELLAS PARTNERSHIP, Inverurie announce that with effect from 1 June 2016 their associate, Elizabeth Cobban, has been appointed as a partner of the firm.

KENNEDYS SCOTLAND, Edinburgh and Glasgow, has relocated to a new, larger Edinburgh office at Baird House, 4 Lower Gilmore Bank, Edinburgh EH3 9QP.

KERR BARRIE, Glasgow, intimates that Sir Adrian Shinwell has retired as a partner with effect from 30 June 2016. Sir Adrian will, however, continue to be associated with the firm as a consultant.

LINDSAYS, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dundee and North Berwick, announces the appointment of Heather Mackay as associate with effect from 6 June 2016. Heather joined the Residential Conveyancing team in Glasgow from CANNONS LAW PRACTICE LLP and will be based in the Glasgow office. In addition, from the same date Fiona Bunting joined the Residential Conveyancing team in the Edinburgh head office as solicitor, from RGM, Linlithgow.

MILLER HENDRY, Perth, Dundee and Crieff, announces that it has appointed Donnie Macleod and Caroline Fraser as partners in its Private Client department, based in Perth and Dundee respectively.

MORTON FRASER, Edinburgh, Glasgow and London, has appointed Lynda Towers, formerly solicitor to the Scottish Parliament and assistant clerk/assistant chief executive there, to the position of Director of Public Law.

PAGAN OSBORNE, Cupar, St Andrews, Anstruther and Edinburgh, has appointed two new partners, Lesley Mearns in the agricultural team from 13 June 2016, and Katherine McGill in the conveyancing team from 4 July 2016. They join from EDEN LEGAL, the practice they formed with a colleague two years ago. Both (above) will be based in Cupar. The firm has also promoted Stephanie Pratt to senior solicitor in Cupar.

ROAD TRAFFIC ACCIDENT LAW (SCOTLAND) LLP, which provides legal services for MOTORCYCLE LAW SCOTLAND, CYCLE LAW SCOTLAND and PEDESTRIAN LAW SCOTLAND, has appointed Marina Urie as a senior solicitor specialising in motorcycle and cycling accident law.

THE SCOTCH WHISKY ASSOCIATION has appointed Caitlin O’Donnell, formerly with MACLAY MURRAY & SPENS, as legal counsel.

With effect from 1 July 2016 the businesses of SMITHS GRANT, Duns and HASTINGS & CO, Kelso and Selkirk have merged. The combined practice will continue from 11 Murray Street, Duns, trading as HASTINGS LEGAL INCORPORATING SMITHS GRANT, to compliment the Hastings Legal group and their existing offices in Kelso and Selkirk. Ricky Hope, associate with Hastings & Co, has been appointed resident solicitor based in Duns alongside Ian Grant who remains as a consultant solicitor. Former principal Bruce De Wert has resigned from the firm from the same date, following the sale of the Duns business.

THORNTONS, Dundee and elsewhere, has appointed four newly-qualified solicitors on completion of their traineeships with the firm: Craig Edward (corporate), Vincent Chung (immigration) and Megan Sweeney (private client), all in Dundee, and Chris Gardiner (private client) in St Andrews.
