SPA update

CPD latest from the Scottish Paralegal Association
19th August 2019 | Louise Duguid

CPD Update

Logo: the Scottish Paralegal AssociationWe at the SPA hope you are all enjoying your summer and making the most of the good weather when you can! All paralegals work extremely hard and a summer break is a great way to recharge the batteries. Although the committee has a break through July, work goes on behind the scenes to provide members with newsletters, conferences and free CPD throughout the year.

The next planned free CPD event will be advertised soon (dates were advised last month). Please check our website and social media for further details on upcoming topics and speakers. These events are always informative and delivered by exceptional speakers. In addition to providing free CPD, these events are a great opportunity to network with other paralegals in your domain. They also allow you to approach the speaker with any issues you are currently working on for their invaluable advice at no expense to you or your firm.

The autumn conference is being held in Dundee’s Apex Hotel on 19 September. Not only is it a great event, it is a five minute walk from Dundee’s waterfront V&A Museum, which hosts major exhibitions and celebrates Scotland’s design heritage. A great way to combine CPD with a visit to this amazing structure. Those who attended last year’s Dundee conference were not disappointed.

The committee tries to cover as many domains as possible at conferences; however, this autumn’s conference will focus on conveyancing, private client and debt recovery. There are also key speakers delivering presentations relevant to all paralegals, as well as exhibitors available to answer any questions on their services. Tickets are on sale through the website scottish-paralegal.org.uk; these do sell out fast so be sure to get yours quickly!

Again, the SPA greatly appreciates your input. If there are any topics that you wish to be covered at the conference or a specific speaker you would like to see, please email us on president@scottish-paralegal.org.uk or info@scottish-paralegal.org.uk and we will do our utmost to accommodate.

Finally, the Coal Authority has kindly offered to visit individual firms to provide free CPD with presentations relating to all aspects of coal mining. These have been an invaluable part of our conferences and we are delighted to offer this to firms. If you are interested, please email us and we will gladly assist in bringing this to you.
