Collected news of Scottish legal appointments and practice changes
10th February 2020

ABERDEIN CONSIDINE, Aberdeen and elsewhere, has promoted Gemma Perfect from associate to partner in the Commercial Real Estate team, and Carly Stewart, solicitor advocate, from associate to senior associate in the Dispute Resolution team, both in its Aberdeen headquarters. Aberdein Considine has also appointed Natalie Mortimer, who joins from VIRGIN MONEY, as head of compliance for the Lender Services Practice Group in its Banking Litigation team, and promoted its partner Thomas Lillie to head of legal for the same practice group.

ADDLESHAW GODDARD, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen and internationally, has appointed Robert Phillips as legal director in its Aberdeen office. A specialist employment and business immigration lawyer, he joins the firm from BURNESS PAULL.

ANDERSON STRATHERN, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Haddington, has appointed Jemma Richardson as a director in its Residential Property team. She joins the firm from SIMPSON & MARWICK.

BLACKADDERS, Dundee and elsewhere, announce the promotion of Pamela Gaffar to legal director with effect from 8 January 2020.

CMS, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen and internationally, has appointed Julie Devlin as an of counsel in the firm’s Finance Practice group, based in Glasgow. She joins from DENTONS.

FRIELS SOLICITORS, Uddingston and Coatbridge are pleased to announce that John Carson has joined the firm with effect from 7 January 2020. John will be based in the Coatbridge office.

WALTER GERRARD & CO, Macduff and Banff, is delighted to announce that its principal, Frances McKay, has been commissioned by Her Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant of the County of Banffshire as a Deputy Lieutenant for the County of Banffshire.

HARPER MACLEOD, Glasgow and elsewhere, has recruited Peter McLuckie, formerly legal and compliance director at Baxters Food Group and most recently a partner with MUNRO & NOBLE, as a senior associate in its Elgin office.

The directors of HOLMES MACKILLOP, Glasgow and Johnstone, are delighted to announce the promotion of Sarah Sheldon and Philip Symon to associate. Sarah continues to work in the Property department in Johnstone and Philip in the Litigation department in Glasgow.

LINDSAYS, Edinburgh, Dundee and Glasgow, has appointed Katherine Irvine as an associate in the Employment team in its Edinburgh headquarters. She was previously in-house with CRONER GROUP LTD.

MILLER HENDRY, Perth, Dundee and Crieff, has promoted Mhairi Cage (private client), based in the Perth office, to senior associate, Julie Darroch (residential property), based in the Crieff office, to senior associate, and Lindsay Kirkwood (private client), based in the Dundee office, to senior solicitor.

NEILL, CLERK & MURRAY, Greenock are delighted to announce the promotions of Alyson O’May to partner and Charlene Duncan to associate, effective from 1 January 2020.

ROONEY NIMMO, Edinburgh and London, has announced that Scott Nelson has joined the firm as a partner, working from both offices. A corporate transactional lawyer, he joins from BAKER McKENZIE.

SCULLION LAW, Hamilton, Glasgow and Edinburgh, has promoted Judith Higson (family law) and Diana McLeish (marketing manager) to executive director.

SHEPHERD & WEDDERBURN, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen and London, has appointed real estate and renewables specialist Richard Turnbull as a partner based in the Edinburgh office. Dual qualified in Scots and English law, he joins from TLT.

SHOOSMITHS, Edinburgh, Glasgow and UK-wide, has appointed Kim Pattullo, who joins from ADDLESHAW GODDARD, as partner and head of its Employment team in Edinburgh; Fiona Cameron, who joins from BRODIES, as a banking partner in Glasgow; and Jacqueline Alleyne (previously at WRIGHT, JOHNSTON & MACKENZIE) and Collette Gibson (previously with CURLE STEWART and LINDSAYS in Glasgow) as real estate associates within its Glasgow operation.

TAGGART MEIL MATHERS, Aberdeen, has appointed Sarah Newnham as a senior solicitor within its Private Client team, with effect from 2 December 2019. She joins from MACKINNONS SOLICITORS LLP.

VIALEX, Edinburgh, has recruited corporate lawyer Emma Seddon, who joins from EDF RENEWABLES, as a senior legal adviser; Christelle Baillie, who joins from SAINSBURY’S BANK, and Michael Drysdale, previously with WRIGHT JOHNSTON & MACKENZIE, as consultants; and Natasha Edgecombe, formerly a corporate lawyer at DLA PIPER, as an adviser in areas such as compliance and anti-money laundering.
